Topic: Definitely got a small hemroid, but no plans to visit a doctor

First off, thanks for the great site, it has been by far the most useful site I've come across on the internet.  Right now, I'm out of work and have no plans to visit a doctor, but I definitely have a hemroid.  I am looking for any additional information someone can offer.  And also if I am being an idiot not going to the doctor, my initial thoughts are to wait at least a week before I consider a doctor visit.

So I have an external hemroid about the size of a blueberry (looked at it and it looks exactly like pictures I saw online).  There has been no bleeding or signs of blood.  I am a 32 year old male and in very good shape.  On Friday I had a large bowel movement where I strained quite a bit.  I felt uncomfortable afterwards but not in pain.  On saturday I had another bowel movement that was quite uncomfortable.  However it wasn't until I went to the gym and exercised that things became painful.  I came home, looked with a mirror and saw the hemroid, like a fleshy blueberry right on the side of my anus.  I can sit, cough, walk.  I can do all this, but with an accompanying pain (mild pain).  The exercising seemed to really push things over the edge, making the problem go from "I feel funny after a bowel movement" to "straight up pain".  I plan to wait until next thursday before even thinking of consulting a doctor.  I figure a couple of days of taking it real easy should make things go away.  I plan on icing it, laying down mostly, eating prunes, only wiping once with wet toilet paper after a bowel movement and then taking a shower, drinking lots of chamomile tea and avoiding alcohol, meat and dairy.

hi Prakash. Thank you for your comments upon our site! we try our best.
Well, if you won't see a doctor, at least use some proved medication. Check our treatment page. I can recommend either Amoils or Venapro, both have good results. Don't stress to much with this, but watch out at the gym. Don't push it too hard.
If it is as small as you described it, you will get away with no severe intervention.
Best of luck!

Thanks for writing back.  It has been almost a week and my hemroid is about the size of a peanut m&m or grape now.  A little bigger than the original blueberry size.  And I have to say, I now understand the phrase "pain in the butt."  This has turned into an unbearable and throbbing pain in the butt.  I take two warm baths a day w/ epsom salt, apply preparation H & witch hazel.  And it is still just brutal with no sign of getting better.  So I caved in and am going to the doctor Monday.

I am really happy you changed your mind. Hemorrhoids can sometimes denote other weaknesses of your body, and should be taken very serious, especially if they evolve like this.

Well, just an update.  I went to the doctor and I had a thrombosed external hemroid.  The doctor did not offer any information i was not able to find online and he told me to just keep doing what I was doing.  In that case, I got nothing out of the visit.  It was good to learn it was thrombosed, because I was pretty convinced it wasn't.
My experience was the pain was ridiculous for about 1 week, then it was mild for 3 to 4 more days.  I feel completely better now, but still leary of getting on a bicycle or something like that.  The blood clot (thrombosed hemroid) never drained out externally, the doctor said to expect some blood to come out and don't be alarmed.  Never happened.  Just left with some extra skin.

Hi Prakesh, I was wondering if you have tried using ice on the hemroid? A friend of mine who cycles for a club had a similar problem, and she tried using some ice after each session on her bike, and she told me that it did make a difference. Perhaps you should give that a go.
