Topic: Help!

Ok, so I am a 23 year old female, overweight by about 30 pounds, and I think I am experiencing a hemorrhoid. I'm freaking out a little! I'm in a lot of pain, although from the looks of it, it doesn't seem like it's too severe. I've been using preparation h cream and wipes, and it seemed to be improving a little. Then tonight I had a bowel movement and it was terrible! I was in pain during, but more so afterward. I reapplied the cream but still feel really uncomfortable. I'm really embarrased, scared, and not sure what to do. I know I should probably go to the doctor, but I don't really have a primary physician. I've been going to my gynecologist since I was 18, so I'm very comfortable with her, but I'm not sure if she treats hemorrhoids! I really don't want to go to the doctor...and I'm really scarred it'll hurt when they examine me. I'm not even sure if it is a hemorrhoid. I haven't been bleeding at all, and there is a little long bump thing beside my anus. So, anyways, to my questions. 1. Is it normal to feel this much pain after a bowel movement?  2. If the cream is working and my symptoms and bump goes away, is it necessary to go to the doctor? and 3. If I do have the doctor, what should I expect the examination to be like...Oh yea, and can I see my gynecologist? Sorry for all the questions, but when I found this site, I felt such relief that there was a place I could ask all my questions!

Re: Help!

I will try my best to answer your questions.

From my personal experience with hemorrhoids, your description sounds like you do have one.  Don't get upset, they are uncomfortable to talk about, but very common.  Bleeding is only one of the symptoms of hemorrhoids, but you do not have to have bleeding associated with hemorrhoids.  I have been through the examinations and they are not painful.  Your gynecologist is not the correct person to examine a hemorrhoid, but I'm sure could answer your questions and point you in the right direction if that is the person you are most comfortable with.

It is not normal to feel pain with a bm.  Creams and ointments do not cure, they only give temporary relief, you can read that on the label.  The exam will obviously entail a rectal check, but no pain, remember the doctor is very used to this, hemorrhoids are very common, and it is better to face a little embarrassment than live with them.  Check out this website for more information, curebleedinghemorrhoids.com.

I hope this was helpful.

Re: Help!

Hi Zoegirl, hi scheidy.
If it hurts, my advice is to see a doctor. Like scheidy said, doctors are really used to hemroids. You don't have to worry about the examination part, just think that you will be somewhere else in 5 minutes. Your gynecologist may know many things about hemorrhoids, if it feels more comfortable with her, you can ask her too, but I believe that a good professional advice is the best and the fastest way to complete healing.
